KZN Cricket congratulate Jones & Mokgakane on SA Under 19 selection:

Durban – Two of KwaZulu-Natal’s most exciting young cricketers, Fraser Jones and Andile Mokgakane, have been selected for the South African Under 19 team to travel to New Zealand for the ICC Under 19 World Cup starting next month.

The pair have both been involved in the recent tri-series triumph over England and Namibia, and have played vital roles in the squads success since they were selected for the Under 19 side to play against the West Indies in July this year.

Chief Executive Officer of KZN Cricket Heinrich Strydom is excited that the union is able to produce national representatives and looks forward to seeing how they contribute at the global showpiece in 2018.

“We are incredibly proud of the contribution we make to cricket on South African and especially the role we play in developing the next generation of Protea players.

“Fraser and Andile are prime examples of players that have come through the various stages of the KZN cricket pipeline and we are excited about what the future holds for these two young men,” Strydom commented.

Jones, who has just finished grade 11 at Michaelhouse, is an all rounder representing KZN Inland and Mokgakane, another all rounder, who is going into grade 11 at Northwood Boys High School, have bright futures ahead of them.

Mokgakane has also made his representative debuts for the KZN Coastal team in both the T20 and 50 over formats.

He will be remembered for his incredible spell of two overs 3/4 in their final pool match of the Africa T20 Cup earlier this year.

“It is so pleasing to see that our Township Development Programme is reaping the benefits and is a breeding ground for future South Africa Players,” Amateur Manager at KZN Cricket Ritesh Ramjee mentioned.

“KZNCU is so pleased to see Andile Mokgakane make the final squad for the SA u19 World Cup in New Zealand , Andile is exceptional player with a bright future ahead.”

Equally impressive has been the rise of Jones in the ranks of junior cricket in KZN as well as nationally and he has made Inland Cricket proud.

“KZN Inland is very excited at the selection of Fraser Jones for the SA U19 team,” Amateur Cricket Manager at KZN Inland Jason Sathiaseelan said.

“He is an exciting all rounder that has the ability to be a match winner. Although I have no doubt that he will make a massive impact for the SA U19 team, the experience gained at such a high level tournament augurs well for his future.”

The ICC U19 World Cup will take place in New Zealand from 13 January to 3 February 2018.

According to the event format, the top two sides from each group will advance to the Super League while the remaining eight teams will figure in the Plate Championship.

The preliminary round matches will be followed by quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals, plus the play-offs.
