KZN cop robbed in police station

8 September 2015 by Alan

Durban – KwaZulu-Natal police are dealing with the embarrassment of having a police officer robbed at gunpoint while inside a police station on Monday night.

Two men stumbled into the Nseleni Satellite Police Station in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Monday night, posing as victims of crime. One of them had a bandaged head.

“The suspects suddenly produced firearms and demanded the safe keys from the officer who was assisting them,” police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said.

“The suspects then disarmed the officer of his firearm and took his cellphone, before fleeing from the scene on foot.”

A case of business robbery has been opened at the Empangeni Police Station. The case is being investigated. No arrests or recoveries have been made yet.

A police source, who could not be named because he is not authorised to speak to the media, said the officer was alone in the station at the time of the robbery because “another officer had been indisposed in the toilet”.
