KZN businesses work together to make every day a Mandela Day

19 July 2017 by Alan

KZN businesses work together to make every day a Mandela Day:

UrbanHouse Media

This Mandela Day local public relations agency, UrbanHouse Media, teamed up with Harcourts Hilton to sew fleece blankets for local NPO, Thandi House Baby Home. KZN PR and brand communications agency, UrbanHouse Media, joined forces with Harcourts of Hilton to celebrate Mandela Day on Tuesday, 18 July. Members from both teams spent their 67 minutes sewing a selection of fun, bright and colourful fleece blankets for Thandi House Baby Home, situated in Pietermaritzburg.

Established in 2009 by Mark and Rene Morcom, Thandi House Baby Home, is a safe haven for abused and unwanted babies and children, as well as a home for young girls faced with unwanted pregnancies. “Thandi”, meaning love, provides all its children with the care of a family that every child deserves.

Taking place annually on Madiba’s birthday, Mandela Day calls on South Africans, and the rest of the world, to do something for 67 minutes on July 18 each year to make the world a better place.

“We’re proud to be able to participate and in our small way make a difference to the lives of the children in care at Thandi House Baby Home. Mandela Day is a good reminder to take the time to give back, not just today but every day, and that is something we, at UrbanHouse Media, are passionate about,” says Director, Cindy Kidger.

“A special thank you to Harcourts of Hilton for allowing us to join them today,” she said.

Harcourts of Hilton owner, Andrew Line, paid tribute to his team for all getting involved and playing a part.

“Mandela Day is about coming together to make a difference to those in need. It’s also about the team building and camaraderie that this day evokes, not just in my office, but around the country and we’re very happy to support that,” Line said.

Thandi House Baby Home, a non-profit organization, does not receive any government funding and relies completely on the kindness and compassion of individuals and businesses in the Pietermaritzburg area to keep its doors open.
