Kwamakhutha Water Supply Interruption

6 August 2020 by Alan

The EThekwini Municipality would like to advise residents of KwaMakhutha and surroundings areas of a water supply interruption on Friday, 7 August 2020 from 08h30 to 16h30.

The KwaMakhutha Booster Pumpstation located in Bhekulwandle adjacent to Umgeni Water Amanzimtoti Treatment Works supplies the KwaMakhutha System. The pumpstation is an integral part of the KwaMakhutha System as it boosts water from the Umgeni Water KwaMakhutha Reservoir to Ethekwini Water and Sanitation KwaMakhutha Reservoirs. They in turn supply downstream reservoirs in Ezimbokodweni and Adams Mission.

Due to frequent loadshedding, the City embarked on a programme of installing standby generators for critical pumpstations to improve the resilience of constrained water supply systems. The KwaMakhutha Booster Pumpstation was identified as one of the critical pumpstations where a standby generator set and associated works will be installed to ensure that there is no significant interruption in water supply should there be an interruption in electrical supply.

The following areas will be affected during the commissioning of this standby generator:

  1. KwaMakhutha Township
  2. Mkhazini
  3. Ezimbokodweni
  4. Adams Mission (Ward 67); Central, Msahweni, Sheleni Road (Khanyile, Njapha, Gugulabanguni), Zwelisha
  5. Adams Mission (Ward 96): Diphini, Nkangala, Ekuphileni, Shozi MaZungu
  6. D1060 (KwaFakazi and KwaMgendwa)

Plans are being put in place to supply the affected areas using water tankers.

All queries regarding the intermittent supply must be referred to our Call Centre on 080 13 13 013, WhatsApp 073 148 3477 and Email Eservices@durban.gov.za
