Jeep Team’s young multisport superstar and 2022 Olympic-hopeful, Mikaela Jonsson (18), claimed the Junior Women’s title, and 2nd Woman Overall,in the Midway Midlands Ultra Triathlon, which took place on Saturday, 28 November, at Midmar Dam, KwaZulu-Natal.
Jonsson competed in the Sprint Tri event, which consisted of a 600m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run. However, the cycle leg turned out longer than expected for the leading group, which included Jonsson, after they took a wrong turn, resulting in an extra 6km bike ride.
Jonsson fought back hard to finish in an impressive 2nd overall and 1st Junior in a time of 1h22.
Riana Robertson (30 – 39 age category) claimed 1st overall in 1h20, with Jessica Dignon (29 and under) 3rd in 1h23.
Said Jonsson, “I’m really happy with my result at the Midlands Ultra Marathon. It’s a great way to end off the season after months of studying for matric. Next year, I will be focusing purely on sport so it’s time to get some real training in now. Thanks to my coach, Jono Rumbelow, for the guidance over this past season, and to my family, friends and sponsors, Jeep Team, for their continued support. Bring on 2016!”

On Friday evening, Jeep Team’s Hank McGregor was back in action on home turf at Race #7 of the 2015 Illovo Suncoast Pirates Wall and Back Surfski Series, which took place in Durban.
McGregor, who had only just arrived back from Hong Kong after winning the Surfski World Series’ Dragon Run, claimed victory in 34m16, just seconds ahead of second-placed Matt Bouman (34m26) and Wade Krieger in third in 34m58.
With paddlers’ best five results contributing to the overall Surfski Seriesstandings, McGregor, who has won four out of seven races so far, is just one result away from winning the 2015 title.
Said McGregor, “It had been a pretty tough week with travelling back from Hong Kong, etc. so it was great to get the Wall and Back win. I’ve got 50 Miler next weekend but I’m sure my partner, Jasper (Mocké), will be okay with me getting a ski race in on the Friday evening as well as I look to try challenge for the series title. Who knows, he may even throw the cat amongst the pigeons and race too and so there may be a Capetonian flavour to next week’s results.”
On Sunday, McGregor partnered with Jason Graham to take on the 26km 2015 Ozzie Gladwin Canoe Marathon. The K2 duo just missed podium, finishing fourth in 1h55, behind Andy Birkett / Lance Kime in 1st (1:51:35), SboneloKhwela/ BanestiNkhoesa in 2nd (1:51:55) and SisekoNtondini / Len Jenkins Jnr in 3rd (1h52).
