The Inkatha Freedom Party in KwaZulu-Natal has extended its congratulations to the matric class of 2013 in the country and in KwaZulu Natal for the improvements in the matric results.
“As the IFP, we thank and wish well all the students who ‘genuinely’ and ‘rightfully’ passed their matric, in their future endeavours. We also thank all the educators and parents for their dedication in assisting the learners do well. All the stakeholders involved in this remarkable achievement need to be thanked and congratulated,” said Hon Mntomuhle Khawula, KZN Member of Legislature and IFP Shadow MEC for Education.
“It is like a miracle has happened,” said Khawula. “In September 2013, Minister Motshekga was in tears about the ANA results in the country. She maintained that our learners cannot read, cannot write and have poor counting skills. In fact in September 2013 the ANA results in language showed a pass rate of 57.4% for grade three 57.4% for grade six and 39.3% for grade nine. In mathematics the pass rate was 55.5% for grade three 41.2%, for grade six and a mere 14.4% for grade nine.”
Khawula continued; “It is like a miracle has happened that the NSC results show such a different picture from the ANA results of the same year.”
“The IFP hopes that this result is not a public relations stunt on the eve of the 2014 National and Provincial Elections due to take place in our country,” said Khawula.
The IFP has always put education high on the list of priorities for the country. “Even during the days of the struggle the Inkatha Yenkululeko Yesizwe then always emphasised the importance of education to learners for them to be better equipped for the future administration of the country,” said Khawula
“That is why the IFP has never been happy about the lowering of the pass percentage to 30% at matric level. This is meant for a feel good image of the politicians but compromises the transition of our learners from High Schools to Tertiary level and it must be addressed,” he concluded.
