Injury Update – Featured Durban Blog

9 February 2016 by Alan

Injury Update:

Durban, 8 February 2016: Last Friday, 5th February the Cell C Sharks played Toulon in a pre-season friendly at the Stade Mayol.

It was a spirited performance from the Cell C Sharks who edged the European Champs by 29-21. Unfortunately, there were a few injuries sustained in the match.

Please find below a medical update on the players injured:

   Name of Player Injury
   Patrick Lambie –  (Suspected) AC joint separation on the right shoulder;

–  Considerable swelling on the shoulder at present;

–  Will return home this week to get scans done and to assess the full extent of his injury as well as the lay-off period.

   Francois Kleinhans –  Torn bicep muscle (left);

–  Will return home later today to get scans done.

   Ruan Botha –  Hip injury;

–  Will return home later today to get scans done.

   Giant Mtyanda –  Cheekbone fracture;

–  Will undergo a scan.

After the match against Toulon, Cell C Sharks Director of Rugby Gary Gold said: “For a first hit-out, I was really pleased with certain aspects of the game. I was particularly happy with our composure and the ability to score as many tries as we did.

“There are a couple of areas we still need to work on, but I think by and large we came through the exercise to measure our levels of fitness and physicality quite well, against a seasoned team, already halfway through their season.”
