Members of the Municipality’s Land Invasion Department, on 24 April 2014, conducted an on-going operation to demolish illegal structures in the Nsimbini area near Chesterville. Whilst they were busy with their operation a crowd of people gathered, began verbally abusing and threatening the team with violence.
As the situation had become volatile members fired shots with paintball gun markers. Three members of the community were hit by the markers and did not suffer any injuries.
The incident was reported to the local police.
The Municipality reiterated its stance against land invasions and illegal occupation of government property. The Land Invasion Department will continue to demolish all illegal structures following the legal prescripts.
