The IFP has threatened action to address what it calls daylight robbery in the provision of RDP houses at Cato Manor in the eThekwini Municipality. IFP Spokesperson Joshua Mazibuko, in a statement he issued today stated:
“Cllr Mdu Nkosi and I visited the family of Nqobile Nzuza who was gunned down during the recent community protest. While we were there at Cato Manor, we had time to speak to some community members. We were shocked to learn that some residents have had their informal houses demolished by the Municipality with the promise that RDP houses to be built on those sites would belong to the owners of the demolished sites. According to residents, in most cases, owners of the demolished houses ended up not getting any houses as RDP houses built on their sites were handed over to other people, some of whom had not been resident in the area. This is one of the reasons the residents ended up taking to the streets because they have pleaded in vain for justice to prevail in the provision of RDP houses.
“This is daylight robbery of the poor and the destitute. As the IFP we strongly condemn it as blatant injustice meted out by the powerful to the powerless. We call on the local Councillor to ensure that, in a matter of two weeks, these grievances have been attended to and justice is seen to have been done to the aggrieved residents. Or else the IFP will consider taking the matter further using all available constitutional options.”
