Durban – The iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium could soon be managed by the same team that runs the award-winning Durban Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre.
This is according to a proposal tabled during an eThekwini council executive committee meeting in Durban on Tuesday.
A decision was not taken by exco though, as the matter was deferred.
According to the proposal in exco’s agenda, after the stadium was constructed ahead of the 2010 World Cup it was run by a management company. Butsince July 2013, the municipality has been operating the stadium.
According to the recommendations, exco has been asked to approve a proposal that the stadium be run by the ICC, but the ICC has not yet accepted the offer.
Lindiwe Rakharebe is the current CEO of the Durban ICC. The centre won an award at the World Travel Awards held on Saturday in the Seychelles.
