Now in its 29th year, The Tsogo Sun Amashova, South Africa’s oldest classic cycle race, is set to take place on Sunday, October 18th, 2015. The 106km main race, which is always the highlight of the day, will have cyclists setting off at 7am at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall, with the 65km Half Challenge beginning at 5:30am at Drew Lane in Cato Ridge and the 35km Fun Ride beginning at 5:30am at Old Main Road, Lillies Quarter in Hillcrest.
Adding to the new additions to this year race, all events will have a new finish line and will see cyclists ending their ride in Masabalala Yengwa Avenue (NMR Avenue) underneath the bridge which links Mustering Fields and Peoples Park in Durban. The cyclists will then proceed to the Suncoast property for a first class hospitality experience where there will also be a screening of two world cup rugby games in the Suncoast Bok Town, so come along and support our rugby heroes.
There will also be top priority for safety, as per previous years, with full road closures for all events, but to add to this year, there will be the addition of age restrictions to each race category. The 106km will now be restricted to those 14 years and older, the 65km will now be restricted to those 12 years and older and the 35km will now be open to those who are 10 years and older.
For the little ones – aged 3 to 8 – there is the Tsogo Sun Minishova which will take place on Saturday, October 17th at Sunkist Beach, Suncoast on the Durban Beachfront. Boasting 2 fun events with full road closures, the kids are sure to enjoy a ride along the promenade with the 5km starting at 7:30am at a cost of R100 and the 1km starting at 8:30am at a cost of only R80.
With the addition of Coo-ee, cyclists are sure to have their thirst’s quenched at the event.
