Heat and Spartans share points:
Durban – Another rain and weather influenced Mzansi Super League game involving the Durban Heat ended with shared points against the Tshwane Spartans at SuperSport Park Centurion on Thursday.
A game that saw the Heat wanting to chase began well for the hosts as their openers got their side off to a strong start.
With the score on 81, Theunis de Bruyn was run out for 40 but the Spartans continued on their way after the start.
Andile Phehlukwayo picked up the crucial wicket of AB de Villiers for just two, caught behind by Dane Vilas.
Dean Elgar and his captain Heinrich Klaasen put on 37 for the third wicket before the latter was dismissed by Malusi Siboto.
Kyle Abbott then picked up the wicket of Pite van Biljon for just five but the Spartans finished their fifteen overs on 141 for four.
Another weather delay meant that the Heat were left with 66 to get in just five overs.
It started poorly for the Heat who lost Wesley Marshall and Wihan Lubbe in the first two deliveries of the innings.
Tom Curran’s first over went for nineteen with Dane Vilas and Alex Hales cashing in.
Vilas was bowled by Morné Morkel in the third over but the rain had become too hard to continue and the sides shared the points.
Speaking after another rained out match, David Miller expressed his disappointment.
“It’s very frustrating for us,” he said. “We just haven’t got going which is the biggest thing. We lost the one game that we did play so we are a little behind the eight ball now.
“But chatting to Dane Vilas he said that the Stars last year won one out of five and went on to win the competition so we are definitely not out of it.
“We just need to get some games in and get on a par with the other teams.”
Despite another game where points were shared, Miller believes that the side are still in a good place.
“It’s great to be a part of this competition and it has a different sort of feel to it.
“There are some great players here but it’s never easy when you aren’t playing cricket,” he added.
The Heat now travel to Port Elizabeth to take on the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants at St George’s Park.
