The Durban Exhibition Centre is a bustling green-hub as the Sustainable Living Exhibition kicked off this morning.
The greener living exhibition was officially opened by Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) MEC, Nomusa Dube and eThekwini Deputy Mayor, Nomvuzo Shabalala.
Dube began her speech with the Native American quote, “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow if from our children.”
“I am pleased that Durban has set the pace in the movement to make climate change everyone’s business. As MEC for COGTA I would like to see other municipalities in the Province getting involved in combating climate change,” said Dube.
The MEC congratulated the exhibitors for showcasing their work which is creating awareness towards greener living.
Deputy Mayor, Cllr Nomvuzo Shabalala said, “We are proud of this 4th annual exhibition which is a partnership between the city and provincial government. From the first exhibition we have seen exhibitors doubling in numbers and we are positive it will continue to grow. This three day exhibition is the ideal platform to educate and mobilise our communities to understand the importance of greener living.”
More than 200 exhibitors are showcasing their innovations making the event a one stop greening shop. Everything from water and energy saving devices, solar powered gadgets and ozone friendly appliances, to worm farms, organic gardening, and recycling is available for the community to inspire you to live sustainable lifestyles.
A highlight of the event is definitely the eco-friendly, zero emission car that is on display.
