Govender elected onto new CSA board – Featured Durban Blog

18 June 2021 by My Durban

Govender elected onto new CSA board:

Durban – The current president of KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Daniel Govender has been elected onto the newly formed Cricket South Africa board following their recent Annual General Meeting.

Govender took over at the helm of cricket in KwaZulu-Natal following the passing of then president Ben Dladla, and took on the role in an interim capacity before he was given the reins permanently heading into the provincial AGM at the end of July.

“It was a successful AGM for Cricket South Africa and we are now in a position where we can make the best decisions for cricket in the country,” Govender said.

“The board is still yet to be constituted, however we are moving swiftly to that position and we will hit the ground running when the time comes to get working.”

Govender has been elected as one of the non-independent directors on the board and hopes to cover the same ground nationally as he has done provincially on the KZN Cricket board.

“I hope to serve in governance and human relations because that is my strength and that’s what I was involved with on the KZN board.

“We will wait until we are given our portfolios but following the performance of KZN Cricket on the national scoreboard I would like to continue that at a national level,” he added.

CEO of KZN Cricket Heinrich Strydom appreciates Govender’s efforts and feels his election onto the national board is a testament to his hard work.

“He had to step in to fill the big shoes of Ben Dladla after his passing in December,” Strydom said. “He handled that very difficult period with aplomb and then went on to represent KZN at CSA level.

“His recent selection for higher honours is a special accolade and we wish him well in his mission to help steer CSA to some calmer waters.”
