EThekwini Municipality will go beyond ’67 minutes’ for the celebration of late statesman, Nelson Mandela’s birthday on Saturday, 18 July 2015, with a city-wide carnival, bringing change and smiles along the way.
To celebrate this momentous day the Mayor Cllr James Nxumalo, members of the Executive Committee, uShaka Marine World, the Durban ICC and Moses Mabhida will lead an entourage of officials from different departments as they volunteer their time in various Wards across eThekwini Municipality.
Several clean-up operations and social interventions will take place in various parts of the City as a continuation of the Mayor’s Clean and Maintain My City programme which is in line with the Municipality’s vision of being Africa’s most caring and liveable City by 2030.
The City’s ’67 minutes’ will include a housing hand over to a family of nine orphans in Ebhodini, eFolweni as well as the handing over of a cheque to the sum of R3 million to a community group that cleans rivers and streams in eFolweni, amongst other activities.
The delegation will be spread out across all Wards including homes for the vulnerable and other areas that require intervention.
The Mayor calls on all employees, residents and business operators to dedicate 67 minutes towards a good cause by cleaning their living and working spaces on Saturday, 18 July 2015.
