Valley of 1,000 Hills

So here we are then, at the end of a 25 km tuk tuk ride out of Siem Reap, Cambodia, and at the base of the Kbal Spean hill. Kbal Spean is an Angkorian era archaeological site on the southwest slopes of the Kulen Hills to the northeast of Angkor in Siem Reap District, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. It is situated along a 50 mtr stretch of the Stung Kbal Spean River, 25 km from the main Angkor group of monuments, meaning in effect, 25km away from Siem Reap. This rather faded sign at the start of the long trail (2.5km up the hill) gives some information about the site, though it is rather difficult to read the sign or see the pictures at the top two or three rows due to their height. Of course, this is more of a pictorial layout plan of the site with nothing much to read actually, something made worse by the frayed and faded nature of the sign. Be that as it may, you may still be able to make out something if you view this picture in expanded or full screen mode. Note notes and pictures of Kbal Spean appear as we go along in this album. (see subsequent pictures). Reap, Cambodia, Oct. 2008)
