Der Jüdische Friedhof am Ölberg ist der älteste und der bedeutendste der Friedhöfe in Jerusalem. Seit dem 1. Jahrtausend v.Chr. begruben die Bewohner der Stadt ihre Toten außerhalb der Stadtmauern, insbesondere hier, wo die Erscheinung des Messias vermutet wurde. Die drei hervostechenden Grabmale sind die des Zacharias, der Familie Benei Hezir und das unvollendete Felsengrab. Es finden sich auch Gräber aus aktuellen Tagen, insbesondere aus der Zeit des arabischen Aufstands in den 1930er Jahren und dem Unabhängigkeitskrieg von 1948. In Ostjerusalem gelegen, bieten die hier stattfindenden Ausgrabungen Kontroversen mit der ansässigen arabischen Bevölkerung.
The Jewish Cemetery on the Mount of Olives is the oldest and most important cemetery in Jerusalem. Burials begun about 1000 BC and last until today, markedly with the graves for the dead of the Arab uprising in the 1930s and the War of Independence in 1948. The most significant tombs are those of Zechariah, Benei Hezir, and the unfinished Rock Tomb. Because of its location in East Jerusalem use and archeological projects here are the source of controversy with the neighboring Arab population.
