sparsand funnels of ships from all quarters of the globe touching the sky lineas they dwindle away in the distance ; labourers passing to and fro, railwaytrucks discharging their commodities for export, others ladened with weightycargoes for the interior, all make up one noisy animate scene not readilyforgotten. Extending our walk as far as the jetty we observe passengerswaiting to be ferried across the channel. Across the bay is an ocean linersteering on its way to the floating dock, or to the northwards timber shipsdischarging at the Congella wharf. In one direction a sailing vessel is beingpiloted out to the ocean, and in the opposite an ocean tramp makes its way tothe Bluff wharf for coal. Yachts and other craft skim quickly over the harbourwaters, while, as if by contrast, a boat is coming with true naval swing froma man-of-war to land its commander on the quay. Truly the port has a fascination frantic to the man whose imagination is vigorously alive to thehappenings around him.

Quick Durban KwaZulu-Natal Fact: From the beautiful buildings of yesteryear, to Durban’s brand new architectural icon – Moses Mabhdia Stadium. Built for the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup, the stadium was designed by German firm, GMP Architekten. Named for the former secretary general of the South African Communist Party, the stadium boasts state-of-the-art technology which maximizes light, protects spectators from wind, and still allows a free view outwards. Situated on a raised platform to enhance its visibility, the stadium can be seen from as far away as Ushaka Marine World. The iconic arch houses a skycar which gives unparalleled views of the city and coastline.
