Valley of 1,000 Hills

View from the Malvern Town Hall clock tower looking east along High Street towards what is now Glen Iris in 1912. A tram is travelling along High Street. In the foreground is the Malvern Cricket Ground with the band rotunda and the house ‘Northbrook’. In front of ‘Northbrook’ are a number of mature trees and the lawn and circular drive. To the east are Malvern Public Gardens and in the distance are the Cawkwell’s Tile Works on the corner of High Street and Tooronga Road.
In the distance is Glen Iris, the Glen Iris and Malvern Valley and Gardiners Creek. There are very few houses east of Tooronga Road and on the hill in the distance is Sacre Coeur Roman Catholic Girls’ School and the Sacred Heart Convent.
To the east between the school and Tooronga Road are a number of single and two storey houses, some either brick, rendered or timber. In the distance are a number of open paddocks and fields.
