Fontanile is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Asti in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 70 km southeast of Turin and about 25 km southeast of Asti.
Fountain, by Fontinali / Fontanilis, means "land of spring waters":
the name itself indicates the main feature of the area, once upon a time rich of water springs
feeding the brook Cervino and even forming a lake in the Robiano Valley.
The landscape consists of clayey hills systems between Belbo and Bormida rivers, domain of barbera grape.
The village is situated on a narrow ridge of a hill, dominated by the imposing bulk of the parish church of St. John the Baptist.
Viticulture is an ancient passion for this comunity; a history of men and women united for more than 1000 years in the cultivation of the vines in the countryside around Fontanile, where today we suspect our origin began.
