FIRST ANNUAL WOMEN WITH A BANG EVENT TO BE HOSTED BY VARSITY COLLEGE – Featured Durban Blog

14 January 2016 by Alan

FIRST ANNUAL WOMEN WITH A BANG EVENT TO BE HOSTED BY VARSITY COLLEGE:

There’s no doubt that many young girls are in need of inspiring role models and good mentorship. It is because of this that Varsity College, Miss South Africa, Gagasi FM and Outrage Concepts have collaborated to host the very first ‘Women With A Bang’ event.
Magazine editor and business woman, Aaliyah Mia
Aimed at uplifting women through speaker engagement, mentorship and networking opportunities, the event will take place at Varsity College’s Durban North campus on the 28th of August from 18h30.

Oprah Winfrey once said, “For every one of us that succeeds, it’s because there’s somebody there to show you the way out. The light doesn’t always necessarily have to be in your family; for me it was teachers and my school.” Oprah’s statement speaks to a situation which is faced by many young women in South Africa and is a great inspiration for this event.

In the days leading up to the main event, Miss South Africa 2015, Liesl Laurie, will be giving away eight bursaries valued at up to R30 000 each to deserving young women via Gagasi FM on ‘The Big Bang’. The winners of the bursaries will be able to study part time or complete a Short Learning Programme at The Business School at Varsity College. Candidates wanting to study are encouraged to send their letters of motivation to whyher@gagasi995.co.za

Says Kevin Johnson, National Stakeholder Manager at Varsity College: “Varsity College became involved with the Miss SA pageant wanting to make an authentic, significant and educational difference not only to the ladies involved in the pageant, but to the work that is carried out in the communities they serve.”

The event is aptly named ‘Women With A Bang’ as it will be supported by Gagasi FM’s midday show, ‘The Big Bang’ hosted by well-known media personality, actor and comedian, Kini Shandu.

Says Kini Shandu: “I am, as is Gagasi FM, so excited to be a part of this initiative. Our aim is to create as much awareness as possible on air so as to attract many young women to the event. Personally, it is my hope that the ‘Women With A Bang’ event will be the first step in upskilling, inspiring and encouraging women to do great things.”
Event attendees can look forward to captivating talks by speakers such as: Miss South Africa 2015, Liesl Laurie; Chairperson of Businesswomen’s Association KZN, Mpume Langa; editor of Urban Life ‘n Style, Aaliyah Mia as well as Managing Director of Dzingwa Clinic, Dr. Nomfundo Mfumfu Dzingwa.

For more information on the event and to reserve your seat, tune into ‘The Big Bang’ on Gagasi FM weekdays between 12pm and 3pm.
