Fidelity ADT Premier Division – Featured Durban Blog

2 July 2019 by My Durban

Fidelity ADT Premier Division:

As the race for the priceless oldest piece of silverware in World Rugby, the Moor Cup, hots up and  enters into the final strait College Rovers have a clear road ahead of them as the only unbeaten side in the Fidelity ADT Premier Division having only dropped one bonus point thus far.

Last weekend College Rovers beat eThekwini Refractories Amanzimtoti 26-7 last Friday night scoring four tries for yet another bonus point win. With 17 players out and leading 19-0 at halftime they ended up drawing seven all in the second session with the South Coast Terriers lifting their game substantially in the half.

The former Boland wing Sergio Torrens who had started his career at Roves a number of years back has returned home as it were and was amongst the try scorers yet again maintaining his position as the top try scorer in the league. Rovers other tries went to Sinovuyo ‘Snakes’ Nyoka and forwards hooker Byron Van der Nest together with lock Denim Fosteras. Fullback Gav Scott converted three of the tries.

Varsity College dropped a valuable log point when they only managed to score three tries in their 21-10 victory over FNB UKZN Pietermaritzburg at the Peter Booysen Stadium in the capital also last Friday evening.  Phiko Sobhle crossed for two of the winning tries while Michael Sibiya scoring the third. Rynhardt Jonker converted all three tries.

In the remaining game  SA Home Loans Durban Collegians, also struggling with injuries, travelled to Richards Bay last Saturday to face the hard men from ‘The Baai’ and came away with a well deserved 48-12 win.

With the Vodacom July Handicap scheduled to be run this Saturday the Premier Division will take a weekend break with the front runners able to regroup and hopefully see some of their key injured players back in harness when they return for action. With that the First Division clubs will hold center stage this coming weekend.

Last Saturday saw  South Coast Warriors thumping Ballito Dolphins 48-19 and UKZN Durban hammering Jaguars 41-7. In the remaining game, unquestionably the game of the weekend, Westville Old Boys edged out Jaguar Land Rover Durban Hillcrest 24-22 in a thrilling game of rugby.

This weekend Westville travel to Woodburn to play Drakensberg in the capital, South Coast Warriors entertain UKZN Durban and Jaguars travel up the North Coast to play Ballito Dolphins.

The Under 20  Division Leagues  will only continue after the Sharks Academy July recess.
