Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa is proud to announce its association with Joburg Ballet and delighted to be the official host of an exciting new event, Ballet Botanica in collaboration with Friends of the Ballet.

Friends of the Ballet is a non-profit organisation, managed purely by a volunteer committee, tracing their own beginnings back to the formation of Joburg Ballet in 2001, or as it was then known, the South African Ballet Theatre.

Over the last five years their fundraising events have played an increasingly important role in terms of raising awareness, support, and the funding of vital projects for Joburg Ballet. This year the fundraising events hosted by Fairlawns will raise funds for new studio mats for the two Joburg Ballet studios. In addition to the professional company, Joburg Ballet operates development and outreach programmes, the Joburg Ballet School, Ballet Academy and Aspirant Programme, building on the vision of making dance an art form that embraces the widest possible cross section of South African society.

Under the direction of Iain MacDonald (Artistic Director), one of the original six dancers who shared the vision of what the South African Ballet Theatre could become, and Esther Nasser (CEO), Joburg Ballet now has 48 employees, performing four major seasons a year in SA as well as international appearances (ballet classics and contemporary).

Fairlawns in collaboration with Friends of the Ballet, will host two exclusive events in August showcasing its beautiful Hotel venue and South Africa`s premier ballet company the Joburg Ballet. Joburg Ballet dancers will entertain guests with a mix of classical and neo-classical pieces highlighting the versatility of the company and its dancers.

“Art is a tremendous vehicle to promote South Africa and we see this as a natural collaboration and opportunity to support in any way we can,” explains Michael Kewley, Managing Director of Fairlawns, on the Hotel`s involvement. “Were excited to partner on this exciting project and bring the world of the local performing arts to the Fairlawns community”.

“Bringing together the elegance of Fairlawns with the artistic talents of Joburg Ballet in two wonderful events that cannot be missed – growing ballet together” Friends of the Ballet.

Saturday, 24 August will be an evening picnic event from 17h00 with dancers under the stars and guests ensconced in a magical Bedouin tent. Sunday, 25 August will be an afternoon picnic High Tea event from 12h30 where guests can fully appreciate beautiful surroundings while entertained by the ballet pieces being performed. Tickets are limited.

For patrons wishing to spend the night, Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa creates an intimate atmosphere where some of the globe’s most vibrant personalities converge. Luxurious suites are individually decorated in varying themes ranging from Eastern influence to French provincial, each featuring every desired modern amenity. The Hotel also caters to a variety of culinary tastes with an array of elegant dining experiences to choose from.
