Experienced Juniors For New Campaign – Featured Durban Blog

28 October 2022 by My Durban

Experienced Juniors For New Campaign:

The Cell C Sharks Under 19s get their SA Rugby Under 19 Cup campaign off to an exciting start this weekend when they host their Free State counterparts on Saturday.

The shortened competition features the Cell C Sharks, Blue Bulls, Western Province and Free State, with the latter travelling to Durban in round one, round two taking place in Cape Town against Western Province with a home leg against Province in round three.

Cell C Sharks Under 19 head coach JP Pietersen has been able to assemble a very experienced side for this brief campaign, bringing in a number of Under 21 players he worked with as assistant to Mike Vowles with the Cell C Sharks Under 21s, who recently competed in the SA Rugby Under 21 Championship.

He has included loosehead prop Phatu Ganyane, hookers Marnus Winter and Bryce Calvert, tighthead prop Dian Heunis, locks Coetzee Le Roux and Luca Ribbens and eighthman Jannes Potgieter amongst the forwards who featured in the Under 21 campaign.

Amongst the backs, he has an established halfback pairing to call on, scrumhalf Christian Els and flyhalf Jean Smith both starting this weekend, along with inside centre Ethan Hooker and wing Banie Britz.

These youngsters all acquitted themselves well for the age group they will feature in over the next year or two and the experience gained punching above their weight can only benefit the team’s aims and calm the fellow young heads in the squad.

Saturday’s match on KP2 at Hollywoodbets Kings Park kicks off at 1pm.

Have you tried: Travelling to South Africa?

Quick Durban KwaZulu-Natal Fact: The KwaZulu-Natal Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council buildings, both national monuments, formed a colonial Parliament of two houses: a Council of 11 nominated members and an Assembly of 37 elected members. The Natal Parliament was disbanded in 1910 when the Union of South Africa was formed, and the Assembly became the meeting place of the Natal Provincial Council. The Council was disbanded in 1986.
