Erwee pleased to end Africa T20 Cup campaign on a high – Featured Durban Blog

6 September 2016 by My Durban

Erwee pleased to end Africa T20 Cup campaign on a high:

KwaZulu-Natal Inland captain Sarel Erwee took comfort from beating Namibia in their final Africa T20 Cup outing at the City Oval in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday.

2016SJAfCup500The 2015 runners-up cruised to a massive 62-run bonus-point victory in a match that had become a dead rubber after North West Seeff Dragons beat Western Province earlier in the day to win Pool A.

For the home side, the result also allowed them to restore some of their lost pride following a humiliating nine-wicket loss to Province on Saturday. They were also stunned by the Dragons in their opening game on Friday.

“It was a very positive way to end the tournament,” Erwee said afterwards. “We had a nice little chat yesterday and just kind of re-assessed where we were going.

“It’s obviously still early doors in the season, we probably still have another month before the campaign actually really starts.

“So to get back to basics and just really do the basics well in our home conditions was quite satisfying. To end with that bonus point win was also quite nice.”

KZNI’s win was set up by two stellar performances, one with the bat and another with the ball.

Tshepang Dithole blasted exactly 50 (31 balls, 5 fours, 2 sixes) to help the hosts make 146/9.
Attie Maposa then delivered the spell of the weekend by taking 3/12 as Namibia were dismissed for a paltry 84 in 18 overs.

North West’s three wins from three saw them top their group and secure a place in the semi-finals, with the other three teams ending with one win each. KZNI’s bonus-point win, though, helped them finish as runners-up in Pool A.

Next weekend the attention will shift to Pool C, which will be played at Buffalo Park in East London.

The four teams in action will be Border, Free State, Easterns and Zimbabwe with two matches each to be played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
