EAST COAST RADIO REP THE WARRIOR NATION – Featured Durban Blog

7 November 2024 by Alan

EAST COAST RADIO REP THE WARRIOR NATION:

If it’s a Friday, there’s only one way to show up: in black, white, and nothing else. Sharks Fridays has been a popular way for fans all over the country to show support for the Warrior Nation every week. And East Coast Radio’s Breakfast Team Darren Maule, Sky Tshabalala, and Carmen Reddy are just a few of those eager fans.

The team recently rocked their Warrior Nation club colours and spoke on air all about their love for Sharks Fridays.

Darren: “Guys, it’s such a vibe here at East Coast Radio Studios at East Coast Radio House on a Friday. I went into the loo, and coming out of the loo was the producer for Carol Ofori’s show, and then coming into the loo behind me was the producer of my show, and everyone was wearing black and white. It was like we had a secret meeting in the loo….It’s just you and everyone else wearing black and white on the day. It’s so cool.”

Carmen: “I love Sharks Fridays because then when you see your colleague that you don’t really normally talk to and that you don’t really know, you’re all wearing the same thing. So now you’re friends. Now you can chat to them. You can talk about your jersey, tell them how nice it’s fitting. No, I’m kidding. I love the fact that we’re all united and we’re all ready for the weekend and we just psych ourselves up and we back the Sharks, which is amazing.”

Sky: “So yeah, the vibe here at East Coast Radio House on Sharks Friday – it’s amazing. It also gives you the sense of it’s matchday or like the next day it’s going to be match day. So we’re excited. Everyone is keen. And, we all speak Sharks rugby language.”

Darren: “My favourite part about Sharks Fridays is that normally we wake up really early in the morning and we have to make the big decision about what to wear. But with Sharks Fridays, that’s eliminated. It’s so easy. It’s black and white, off the shelf, on my shoulders, bada bing, bada boom.”

Sky: “My favourite part about Sharks Fridays is the energy around the office. Everyone is on the verge of just scrumming and doing lineouts and it’s energetic. It’s fiery, but in the right direction: positive energy.

“My favourite Jersey is the black one because it makes me look like a Zulu warrior. I’m looking forward to the DHL Stormers game because the last game the Sharks played against Munster was five star. They were amazing. And I cannot wait to beat the Stormers who I don’t think have been having a great season.”

Darren: “I love wearing my home Jersey because then it’s unambiguous. It’s black. with some white and that is not even close to any other team. Do you know which game I’m really looking forward to? You know those Stormers, they like coming here to our backyard and causing upsets. Those days are over. Sharks are taking on Stormers here at home. They’re going to be in tears.

JOIN THE WOLFPACK: AN OFFICIAL SHARKS SUPPORTER VENUE IN LONDON:

Looking for a spot in London that brings together the passion for rugby, great beer, and a strong sense of community? Look no further than Wolfpack. This pub was founded by two former international rugby players, Al Hargreaves and Chris Wyles, and is more than a place to watch a rugby match: it’s a celebration of rugby culture and camaraderie.

The Wolfpack is an official supporter club venue for the Hollywoodbets Sharks in London, creating a space for South Africans abroad and international fans alike to gather and support their favourite team.

We spoke with owners Al and Chris all about their love of the Hollywoodbets Sharks, the vibe at Wolfpack, and their passion for fostering community,

Why did you want to be affiliated with The Sharks as an official Supporters venue?

Al Hargreaves proudly represented the Sharks all the way from age group rugby to playing against the world’s best in the Super Rugby competition. Our partnership with the Sharks is the perfect way to reignite old friendships as well as introducing an international crowd to the Warrior Nation!

How would you describe the vibe on a Saturday afternoon/evening at Wolfpack?

Electric! It always feels like something might just kick off at the Wolfpack… Expect a fun, high-energy environment, a fantastic welcome, and the friendliest customers in town.

What is it like to watch the rugby at Wolfpack?

We would like to think it is the ONLY way to watch rugby. You’ll have to come and experience it for yourself!

What would you recommend pairs best with rugby from your kitchen?

Beer. Lots of it! Jokes. But you can’t go wrong with ordering any of the delicious food options on our menu.

What makes Wolfpack such a special venue in London?

Wolfpack is a bond and a community. We believe in bringing people together one delicious pint at a time. After all, the strength of the Wolf is in the Pack.
