Durban Talent Honoured

12 March 2014 by Alan

The Wenze Kahle Mayoral Breakfast Ceremony was successfully held on Tuesday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, as the City’s heroes and heroines were recognised for being “good ambassadors” and flying the Durban flag high.

The aim of the Wenze Kahle Mayoral Breakfast Ceremony was to honour citizens of the City who recently received awards in various fields.

Mr Thembinkosi Ngcobo, Head of Parks, Recreation and Culture Unit said that he is proud to be associated with people of such caliber. “You have shown your brilliance not only locally, but internationally as well. You have risen head-and-shoulders above the rest and proved that there is a lot of talent in this City and because of you, we are able to build a resilient City which can compete on any world stage.”

People were honoured for accomplishments in various fields ranging from arts and culture, media, academic and sports. Mapule Mchunu of Inanda FM said that the recognition by the Municipality is testimony of the good work being done by the station. Musician, Sindisiwe Zungu aka Dj C’ndo said that the support from the Municipality encourages them to keep pushing harder and doing better.

Some of the people honoured include; Prof. Salim Abdool Karrim and Prof. Q Abdool for the groundbreaking research and innovation on the HIV/AIDS pandemic that saw them receive a UNAID Award; gospel singer, Hlengiwe Mhlaba for the SA Crown Music Awards – Classis of all Time; Clermont Choir for the Melting Pot Competition; Journalist, Nompumelelo Madlala for the Commendation Award in the Standard Bank Sikuvile Journalism Awards – hard news category and KwaMashu Body Dynamics for various national awards.
