Durban is gearing up to host another prestigious festival which is expected to attract thousands of motor sports fanatics.
The Top Gear Festival will once again take over the Moses Mabhida precinct from 21-22 June and preparations for this event are at an advanced stage.
Mayor Cllr James Nxumalo said it is all systems go to welcome the deafening sound of the revving engines, screeching tyres and some nerve wrecking stunts by the Top Gear team.
“This festival does not only position the City as one of the international sporting and events capital, it also brings positive economic spinoffs for the City and the Province. In the first year the City hosted this festival, it contributed over R93 million into the City’s economy”, said Nxumalo.
He added that in the second year, the economic impact was estimated to have almost doubled. More than 500 jobs created just by hosting the festival over the weekend and 75 000 people attended the event.
Kim Renyard, Top Gear Festival Director said that the Top Gear team has ensured that there will be minimal traffic disruption.
“We have also placed emphasis on continuously aiming to improve the experience for the spectators who will be attending the festival. Together with the City, this year we have created a new condensed street circuit layout which not only brings more action to the fans but means less road closures and less traffic impact,” said Renyard.
Tickets are selling fast and fans can look forward to entertainment by local celebrities while the international team have been hard at work preparing a stadium show which will feature breath-taking stunts, supercars, special guests and challenges in what is set to be one of their most ambitious shows yet.
The Top Gear Festival is taking place at the Moses Mabhida on 21 and 22 June. Tickets are still available for those who wish to be part of this greatest motoring show in Africa!
