Have you ever had tomato jam?

I brought a tin into work a few years ago and got the most quizzical looks from my workmates along with jeers of "Tomato jam? That must taste awful." Apparently here in Cape Town it is a little known jam. Back in my hometown of Durban it is popular and every kid knows it.

Come to think of it up until I moved to Cape Town I did not know a single person who did not like tomatoes. But in the years since I have met many a picky Capetonian eater who shudders at the thought of a fresh tomato.

Well, I love tomatoes (dash of salt, grind of black pepper and a splash of vinegar with it) and tomato jam is just the finest jam there is.

If you haven’t tried it and think a jam made from tomatoes sounds strange then just give it a try.
