Nostalgia trip here. I found this old team photo in a drawer and managed to scan it in despite its delapidated condition. It is Derby County’s 1968-9 Second Division Championship winning side, managed by the legendary Brian Clough.
The players are [L-R from top row]:
Frank Wignall, Jim Walker, Alan Durban, Les Green, John Robson, Roy McFarland, Ron Webster, John McGovern, John O’Hare, Dave Mackay [captain, with the trophy], Kevin Hector, Willie Carlin, Alan Hinton.
The photo was taken pitchside at the old Baseball Ground, no idea who the photographer is. Clough’s team went on in short order to win the old First Division title too, a fantastic achievement for a side who had languished in the depths of Division Two for years before Clough and his right hand man Peter Taylor took over. A pity the pair were forced out by an obtuse and incompetant board and ended up achieving their greatest success with Derby’s local rivals.
