Durban Heat borderline full strength for Spartans clash – Featured Durban Blog

30 November 2018 by My Durban

Durban Heat borderline full strength for Spartans clash:

After a nail-biter in their opening game of the Mzansi Super League, the Durban Heat will welcome the likes of David Miller, Heinrich Klaassen and Brandon Mavuta into the squad for their clash with the Tshwane Spartans at Kingsmead on Wednesday afternoon.

The Heat went down to the Cape Town Blitz in their opening game of the competition, however both coach Grant Morgan and captain Albie Morkel were not disappointed by their showing and know that there is a lot to be positive about.

With the likes of Proteas stars Miller and Klaasen joining the mix and the leg spinner Mavuta coming from Zimbabwe, Morgan has got a number of tough decisions to make when he puts together his strongest eleven for the clash.

Khaya Zondo and Keshav Maharaj performed well for the side in their opening game of the tournament, so the Heat’s brains trust will be more than encouraged by the introduction of their international stars to bolster an already strong squad.

“We are excited to be getting players of that sort of international quality coming into the squad and it can only be good for your team,” coach Grant Morgan said.

“We’ve taken some time in selection and will make sure that we work out all the possible options to get the best team together.

“Everyone is really excited to get out there and play our next game,” a positive Morgan mentioned.

“I’m sure it is the same for all of the teams but we have a very real and positive connection between the players in the squad,” Morgan added.

“I truly commended the guys on how they helped one another and engaged with the fans after the game on Sunday. We have got a bunch of really good cricketers but more importantly, really good human beings.”

The Spartans have won one game and lost one game in their opening two of the competition. With the likes of AB de Villiers in the ranks they have one of the best in the world and captain Morkel knows the star better than most.

“I have played a lot of cricket with him and we have got some plans to but he will carry a lot of pressure on his shoulders,” Morkel said.

“I’m not saying the rest of the team isn’t dangerous and they have some good players but he is probably the stand out.”

KZN Coastal Academy Boosted by Solly M Sports Sponsorship:

Durban-based sporting good specialists Solly M Sports and the KZN Cricket Union have entered into a one year agreement, with the option to renew, where Solly M Sports will be the official sponsor of the Kingsmead-based academy.

The KZN Coastal Academy has been the home of some of the country’s top cricketers with the likes of David Miller, Keshav Maharaj, Andile Phehlukwayo and Hollywoodbets Dolphins captain Khaya Zondo all coming through the ranks. It has and still is a breeding ground for cricketers in the province and will continue with the support of SollyM Sports.

Solly M Sports is a name synonymous with sporting goods in Durban and to have a truly Durban brand supporting the KZN academy gives the relationship a homely feel and CEO of Solly M Sports Imtiaz Karodia is excited about the partnership.

“Our choice to partner with KZN cricket was a no brainer,” Karodia said. “Being a local business and having most of our cricketing ambassadors based in Durban, it made perfect sense to embark on this partnership which we hope will last for many successful years.

“This partnership is more than purely a business deal, it is also a shared love and passion for cricket and the fact that there is so much of untapped potential from grassroots level right up to this academy.”

CEO of KZN Cricket Heinrich Strydom is looking forward to seeing how this relationships can improve the development of players that come through the academy with emphasis on growing the numbers of academy players moving into the franchise set up.

“This sponsorship will add immense value to the KZN cricket pipeline,” Strydom said. “It will afford the Union the opportunity to add some vital extras to this official CSA programme.

“It also gives us the opportunity to broaden the support base to players involved in the academy.”

Along with Solly M Sports, PR Cricket has taken on sponsorship of a handful of players in the KZN pipeline.

They have supported Proteas star Keshav Maharaj for six years and have added fellow Hollywoodbets Dolphins star Okuhle Cele, Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal player Thula Ngcobo and KZN Women’s player Nondumiso Shangase to their list of sponsored players.
