Ten designers who participated in the recent Durban Fashion Fair have been given the opportunity of a lifetime.
They will be jetting off to Milan, Italy tomorrow, 08 September 2015 for a two-month internship with the support and backing of the eThekwini Municipality.
They will be leaving from King Shaka International Airport at 15h00.
The Durban Fashion Fair was held from the 26 – 29 August 2015 at Suncoast Casino by eThekwini Municipality to capacitate and empower young designers and encourage the culture of entrepreneurship as well as facilitate access to new markets and networking opportunities.
Emerging designers were given the opportunity to share a platform with established local and international designers.
The announcement of the winning designers, selected to represent the Municipality on an international stage, was made at the Fashion Fair.
The selected designers are: Eli Ball (Eli Ball- Made in Africa), Blaire Hill (Bamboo Hill); Neliswa Jili (Makuyi Design); Sadie Bosworth Smith (Sadie Bosworth), Kat Shoesmith (KSD- Kat Shoesmith Designs), Khanyisile Malimela (Khanyi), Nokubonga Mbambo (Tymles Creations), Zamir Dada (BEL1EV) Nontuthuko Langa (Endless Inspirations) and Thulisiwe Zakwe (RUUTZ).
Deputy Mayor Cllr Nomvuzo Shabalala said the success of the Durban Fashion Fair proved that the City has the potential to become an international fashion capital.
