Dolphins take control on day two in Gqeberha:
Gqeberha – The Hollywoodbets Dolphins played themselves into a strong position on the second day of their CSA 4-Day Domestic Series clash against the Warriors at St George’s Park on Friday, thanks to a 68 from Andile Phehlukwayo and resilient support from the middle order batsmen.
The Dolphins resumed on 151/5 and quickly went past the home sides first innings total of 166.
When Jason Smith fell for 45, caught and bowled by Beyers Swanepoel, Eathan Bosch joined Phehlukwayo at the crease and the pair put together a critical 93 run seventh wicket partnership, Bosch contributing 51 runs before he fell to Ziyaad Abrahams.
The momentum stayed with the Dolphins as a 39 run ninth wicket stand between Phehlukwayo and Odirile Modimokoane flourished until Phehlukwayo’s knock came to an end on 68, taking the Dolphins innings to 285.
Seven balls later Modimokoane was bowled by Swanepoel for 25, closing the Dolphins first innings on 285, a lead of 119 runs.
In their reply the Warriors lost openers Wihan Lubbe and Jordan Hermaan to Daryn Dupavillon and Ottneil Baartman before tea.
All-rounder Phehlukwayo then bowled Lesiba Ngoepe, leaving the Warriors at 97/3, and when Jason Smith caught Rudi Second off Modimokoane for 14 the Warriors had scrambled into an overall one run lead.
Stalwart Matthew Breetzke was joined by Diego Rosier and the pair added 38 runs before stumps were drawn, Breetzke unbeaten on 43, leaving the Warriors with a 39 run lead with six wickets in hand going into the third day on Saturday.

Dolphins bowlers dominate day one in Gqeberha:
Gqeberha – The Hollywoodbets Dolphins bowlers helped the Dolphins edge the Warriors on the opening day of their CSA 4-Day Domestic Series clash at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on Thursday.
After bowling the Warriors out for 166, the Dolphins finished the day fifteen runs short of the hosts’ first innings score with five wickets in hand going into the second day.
The Dolphins were put into the field and after a positive start from the Warriors openers, the Dolphins bowlers came into their own and got on top of the Warriors.
Eathan Bosch picked up the first wicket of the innings when he had Wihan Lubbe caught in the slips for thirteen.
The partnership between Ottniel Baartman and Tshepang Dithole then came into it’s own when the seamer and wicket-keeper combined to dismiss Lesiba Ngoepa for fifteen.
Dithole bagged his second catch when Daryn Dupavillon caught the edge of Matthew Breetzke’s bat for ten and the Warriors were 73 for three.
Opener Jordan Herman got to 50 before the Baartman and Dithole combination came together again to give the Dolphins their fourth wicket of the innings.
A fourth catch for Dithole saw Eathan Bosch get his second wicket when Rudi Second was also caught behind for sixteen as the Dolphins started to gain the ascendancy.
Diego Rosier was Dithole’s fifth victim and Baartman’s third when he was caught behind off the inside edge for two. In the 33rd over of the innings the Warriors were 11 for five.
Beyers Swanepoel was clean bowled by Dupavillon before spinner Odirile Modimokoane got in on the act picking up the wicket of Tsepo Ndwandwa, well caught at slip by Marques Ackerman.
Glenton Stuurman gave the Warriors side some momentum when he scored 37 off 42 balls before Dithole bagged his sixth catch of the innings off the bowling of Bosch.
Modiamokane picked up the final wicket of the innings when Mthiwekhaya Nabe skied a slog and was caught by Ackerman, giving him a third catch of the innings. The wicket wrapped up the Warriors innings on 166 in 49 overs.
The Dolphins lost the wicket of Grant Roelofsen with the score on eighteen when he holed out to deep square-leg off Swanepoel.
SJ Erwee and Ackerman took the Dolphins to tea, but Erwee fell after the break, caught for eleven. At the loss of the second wicket the Dolphins had moved to 34 in ten overs.
Tshepang Dithole was dismissed by spinner Wihan Lubbe for four, nicking to slip leaving the Dolphins 39 for three.
Ackerman and Khaya Zondo threatened to put a partnership together, however spinner Ndwandwa stopped that with Zondo caught for 15.
35 runs later with the score on 103 the Dolphins lost the key wicket of Ackerman for 48. The Dolphins were still 63 runs off the Warriors’ first innings score with five wickets in hand.
Jason Smith and Andile Phehlukwayo took the Dolphins to the close with Smith 44 not out and Phehlukwayo 16 not out.
The Dolphins finished on 151 for five, trailing the Warriors first innings score by fifteen runs going into day two.
