Dolphins slump to St Georges Park defeat – Featured Durban Blog

4 March 2017 by My Durban

Dolphins slump to St Georges Park defeat:

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins fell to a 130 run defeat at the hands of the Warriors under the floodlights at St Georges Park on Friday night, jolting the Momentum One Day Cup log leaders after their encouraging midweek win in Kimberley.

Batting first the home side bounced back from losing Jon Jon Smuts to Robbie Frylinck early on to build a 75 run third wicket partnership that was the springboard for Colin Ingram to post a 105 run century and help the Warriors to an imposing total of 274/5.

In reply, openers Morne van Wyk and Vaughn van Jaarsveld started positively, scoring well within the required run rate, but once wickets started to fall, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins were unable to string together meaningful partnerships to build a foundation for a serious run chase.

VanWykVan Wyk top scored with 36 off 25 balls, skipper Khaya Zondo added a further 32 run and Sibz Makhanya contributed 20 runs to the cause on a night when the Durban franchise battled to get to grips with the St Georges Park wicket, and quickly fell behind the run chase.

Danger man Robbie Frylinck looked to be steadying the listing ship. but once he was dismissed, run out scampering back to his crease after being sent back by Calvin Savage, the writing was on the wall for the Dolphins.

The win for the Warriors earned them a bonus point and adds spice to the congested top of the Momentum One Day Cup log at the halfway point of the competition.

Coach Grant Morgan will regroup his troops and set new goals for the upcoming fixtures against the Cobras in Paarl on Wednesday, and the chance to settle scores with the Eastern Cape side when they meet for the return fixture next Friday at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead.
