Dolphins School of Excellence T20 Bashes kick-start new season:
Durban – The newly formed Dolphins School of Excellence’s Under-10 and Under-12 T20 Bash competitions start on Thursday, ushering in the new cricket season across the province with twelve teams across the age groups taking part.
The three day tournament will culminate in a finals day at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium on Saturday, with club venues across Durban playing host to the round robin fixtures as the teams vie for the opportunity to play at Kingsmead.
The six teams in each age category have all been named after various Hollywoodbets Dolphins stars with the Zondo Zebras, Erwee Eliminators, Phehlukwayo Patriots, Miller Mavericks, Maharaj Mustangs and the Petersen Panthers battling it out for the honours.
The tournament forms part of a bigger project for KZN Cricket where they hope to offer younger children the opportunity to grow as cricketers through a number of projects that will help in strengthening the KZN cricket pipeline.
The KZN Department of Sport and Recreation, the Hollywood Foundation, Illovo Sugar Africa, Kookaburra, Coca-Cola Beverages, East Coast Radio, the Cricket Company and TK Clothing have already committed to the programme and are playing an important role in supporting the next generation of cricketers in KwaZulu-Natal.
Bringing young cricketers together around a common love for the game is a big part of why they are doing it, according to CEO of KZN Cricket Heinrich Strydom.
“We are incredibly excited that the Dolphins School of Excellence programme is finally getting off the ground,” Strydom said. “The great thing about the DSE is that it offers opportunities to the entire cricket family including not only players, but also coaches, umpires, scorers, ground staff and administrators.
“To have young cricketers from all different walks of life coming together and creating friendships and bonds that will hopefully go beyond the T20 Bash.
“It’s going to be an exciting three days of cricket for the youngsters culminating in what’s going to be an exciting opportunity to play at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead in the final.
“We are incredibly grateful to all the sponsors that have come on board and have made this programme and tournament possible and we cannot wait to help the future of KZN Cricket grow.
