Dolphins out to continue winning form – Featured Durban Blog

Dolphins out to continue winning form:

Durban – With seven wins from their eight games so far in the Momentum One Day Cup and a semi-final spot sewn up, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins do not intend to take their foot off the pedal when they take on the Warriors in East London on Sunday.

The Durban side wrapped up their semi-final spot with a four wicket win over the Imperial Lions at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium on Thursday evening and will look to secure their home semi-final this weekend.

Not only have the Dolphins secured a semi-final spot but they have now earned a home semi-final after the Warriors beat the Momentum Multiply Titans on Friday evening.

Assuming the Dolphins captaincy for the first time in white ball cricket was Prenelan Subrayen and he helped guide his side to a crucial win and he was full of praise for the batsmen.

“It was a mature innings from all our batters to set the innings up for us, which was encouraging,” Subrayen said. “We obviously would have liked to have won with less wickets down but the maturity shown by Sen (Muthusamy) and Rob (Frylinck) at the end showed the depth that we have in our batting line-up.

“The positive for us through this season is that not just one or two players have carried the batting line up.

“We have had guys chipping in every game and it’s been a massive team effort from the side.”

The all-round display from the Dolphins was a good one, even when the Lions threatened to get away at one stage, but Subrayen stressed that patience is key in bowling during fifty over cricket.

“We expected them to put a partnership together but the most important thing was how the guys managed to hold their nerve and pull through and get that important breakthrough.”

Heading to East London the Dolphins will be hoping that they can do the double over the Warriors after they beat them in the their first meeting in Pietermaritzburg earlier in the competition.

Subrayen and his team have an eight point buffer at the top of the log and the confidence in the camp is strong.

“The team is in a good space and we are in a good frame of mind at the moment, which is great,” he mentioned.

“We are just going to try and continue that and leave no stone unturned heading towards the semi-finals.”

Games on Thursday then Sunday are followed by a five day break which gives players the chance to get some rest, however the back-to-back games can take their toll on the squad towards the back end of the season.

“The travel becomes hectic when you have games like this close together but having a happy change room makes it a lot more bearable when you have short, intense trips.

Following a strong campaign with the ball, Dolphins speedster Daryn Dupavillon has been called up to the Standard Bank Proteas squad for the third and final One Day International against Australia on Saturday.

In his absence the Dolphins have added young fast bowler Lifa Ntanzi to the squad and they will also travel with young batsman Thamsanqa Khumalo.
