Dolphins hungry for T20 improvement – Featured Durban Blog

15 November 2016 by Alan

Dolphins hungry for T20 improvement:

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins are eager to put in a markedly improved performance on Wednesday, 16 November when they clash with the bizhub Highveld Lions in their second CSA T20 Challenge fixture at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead in Durban.

2016nipper500After a disappointing batting display saw them suffer a seven wicket loss at home to the Warriors on Sunday, the Dolphins are out to put in a significantly better performance second time around before they depart on a four match away trip.

“We were far from our best on Sunday, everyone realises that,” admits Morgan. “It wasn’t the intention, obviously, but it still wasn’t good enough.”

“We didn’t give the KwaZulu-Natal public any energy on Sunday; we didn’t excite anyone either in the crowd or in front of their television sets, and that’s not good enough,” he added.

While the Lions come to Durban having also suffered a bonus point loss in their opening clash of the T20 Challenge, Morgan and his men are focused on their efforts ahead of Wednesday’s task.

“We’re not going to panic, but we’re also not going to accept mediocrity.

“We had a really good training session today, our top six also had a good meeting too and we’re hungry to put in a better display against the Lions.”

One of four batsmen to get starts on against the Warriors was Kyle Nipper and going forward, the KZN Inland all-rounder is eager to take better advantage of the opportunity he has been given by Morgan and the Dolphins selectors.

“It’s nice to be back in the setup again,” Nipper explains. “I’ve been in and out of the Dolphins setup for quite a few years and never really had a full go at it but I feel like I’ve now given myself the best chance to do that.”

“When it comes to white ball cricket, I enjoy the pace of the game and I feel I can add quite a lot of value in the batting.

“As a batter, you want to score runs every time you bat and I feel like I’m in a good space at the moment.”

While the Hollywoodbets Dolphins have named the same 14-man squad that turned out against the Warriors, the team’s medical staff is keeping a close eye on Standard Bank Proteas youngster, Andile Phehlukwayo.

The fast emerging all-rounder was hit in the groin by a powerfully struck Jon-Jon Smuts shot on Sunday and was forced to leave the field midway through his four over spell that had already yielded two wickets for just three runs.

“Andile took a frightening knock and so he’s been to the doctor to have everything checked out,” explains Morgan.

“He has to be very careful.

“At the moment we’re not expecting him to be out on the Lions game and we hope we’ve got him tomorrow.

“If not, then we’ve got Mbasa Gqadushe in our squad who offers a lot with the ball, in the field and the bat.”

DolFANS are encouraged to head down to the Durban venue for the midweek clash and get behind their boys as they look to get a win to their name before going on the road for four back-to-back matches.

Tickets are available from the stadium’s ticket office or www.ticketpro.co.za from as little as R30.

KwaDabeka Cricket Club banks R6600 from Hollywoodbets Dolphins Development Cricket Club programme:

Hollywoodbets will be choosing one development cricket club from Durban to support during each of the Dolphins’ Kingsmead-based T20 matches this season.

2016kwadabekacheque500The chosen team will receive free tickets to Sahara Stadium Kingsmead, transport to and from the match, #DolFANarmy t-shirts and caps as well as a meal. On top of they will also receive a financial contribution of R5000 as well as an additional R200 for every six hit during the match!

On 13 November KwaDabeka Cricket Club had the great privilege of being the very first Hollywoodbets Dolphins Development Club of the Match and the club will receive R6600 in total after eight sixes were hit during the Dolphins vs. Warriors clash.

This local club faces mainly challenges. Currently the players don’t have uniforms, proper training grounds or even water bottles to use during their matches. Another big problem is that the team often doesn’t have the funds to travel to their matches.

According to Nozipo Mpungose, Chairperson of the club, they are all very grateful for the support.

“This club plays a very important role in the community because it helps keep children busy and off the street, away from activities like theft and drug use.

“This donation from Hollywoodbets will help us so much and we are very thankful to them.

“We will use these funds to buy uniforms for our players.”
