Dolphins go down to Rocks in T20 Challenge:
Durban – The Hollywoodbets Dolphins fell to their third defeat of the CSA T20 Challenge when the Gbets Rocks beat them by eight runs at St George’s Park on Sunday.
Chasing 120 to win the match the Dolphins finished on 111 for nine in their 20 overs, meaning they need to win their final match on Wednesday to finish in the top four.
Through the first six overs of the Rocks innings the Dolphins had started well with Eathan Bosch picking up the prized scalp of Janneman Malan for one as the Rocks finished the powerplay on 33 for one.
It was Andile Phehlukwayo who got into the act next when he picked up the prized wicket of Rocks skipper Pieter Malan for 33 off 30 balls, well caught in the deep from Ottniel Baartman, and the Dolphins had restricted the Paarl side to 43 for two in the ninth over of the innings.
Captain Prenelan Subrayen then picked up his first wicket when he bowled the young Michael Copeland for five which saw the Dolphins gain the ascendancy with the Rocks reaching the halfway stage at 52 for three.
With five overs left in the innings the Dolphins continued to keep the Rocks batters in check with a run rate of under six runs to the over. They got to the 15 over mark on 84 for four.
Bryce Parsons got into the act with the first ball of the sixteenth over when he picked up the wicket of Hlomla Hanabe for a duck.
With a need to up the run rate Ferisco Adams holed out to Marques Ackerman in the seventeeth over for 15 off Bosch, handing the seamer his second wicket.
Parson’s continued into the eighteenth and the Dolphins were rewarded again with the run-out of Shaun von Berg for three as the Dolphins continued their strangle-hold over the Rocks batting line-up.
Bosch bowled the nineteenth over and picked up his third wicket when Hardus Viljoen chopped on for 15 with the total 106 for eight.
All-rounder Bosch finished as the pick of the Dolphins bowlers with figures of three for 23 – taking his competition tally to six wickets from two matches.
The Dolphins picked up a second run-out in the final over and Phehlukwayo’s final over went for ten but yielded a wicket as the Rocks finished 119 for nine.
In reply the Dolphins got off to a steady start before Grant Roelofsen was caught for 19 with the score on 25 in the fifth over.
Just a ball later, Keegan Petersen was run out to a direct hit from Ferisco Adams for five and the Dolphins were 25 for two after five overs.
At the end of the powerplay the Dolphins were 32 for the loss of two wickets with Ackerman and Jason Smith at the crease.
Smith fell in the seventh over when he hit a Shaun von Berg delivery to long off for a single.
After ten overs the Dolphins had moved to 60 for three and were up with the required rate with Ackerman and Khaya Zondo at the crease.
Ackerman was dismissed to a good catch from Janneman Malan for 23 with the total on 66.
The Dolphins lost Bryce Parson and Khaya Zondo and they were 78 for six in the fifteenth over of the chase.
Pressure from the Rocks bowlers saw the Dolphins lose three wickets in the last two overs and finish on 111 for nine in their 20 overs.
The Dolphins face Western Province in their final group match on Wednesday.
