Dolphins face Cobras in return MODC fixture on Wednesday – Featured Durban Blog

18 February 2020 by Alan

Dolphins face Cobras in return MODC fixture on Wednesday:

Durban – The Hollywoodbets Dolphins squad will travel to the Western Cape to face the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras in their fifth Momentum One Day Cup clash at Newlands on Wednesday hoping to turn around their defeat to the men from Cape Town in round three.

Imraan Khan’s team have had a frantic start to the competition with three wins from their first four games, including two bonus point wins over the VKB Knights. They currently sit on top of the One Day Cup log by a single point over the Imperial Lions.

The Dolphins fell just short of beating the Cobras in a rain-affected clash at the Pietermaritzburg Oval earlier in the competition and Khan believes the side is in a good space going into the final match of the first half of the tournament.

“It has been a good start to the competition from the side, the boys have played some really good cricket in the first half,” Khan said.

“The game in Maritzburg was a bit frustrating for us as a team because I felt that the rain break and Duckworth/Lewis came into effect when we were controlling the game but I still think it was a good effort to get as close as we did.”

The game will see first and third on the run scorers charts go head-to-head as the Cobras’ Zubayr Hamza, who has scored 457 runs in the competition, goes up against Grant Roelofsen, who has bagged 293 runs so far.

From a wicket taking perspective the Cobras can also claim top spot as young Thando Ntini leads the way with eleven scalps in five matches. For the Dolphins, Keshav Maharaj is their highest placed wicket taker with seven wickets at an average of nineteen runs per dismissal.

Despite being top of the log with one game left in the first half of the competition, Khan’s team will keep their eyes on each game as it comes rather than concentrate on making the play-offs.

“We are just going to take it game by game because there is still a long way for us to go in this competition.

“There is still a lot of hard work ahead of the team with some big games coming up starting with Wednesday against the Cobras,” Khan added.
