Dolphins dominate Cobras on day three:
Durban – In a marathon day of cricket the Hollywoodbets Dolphins took control of their 4 Day Domestic Series clash with the Six Gun Grill Cobras on Wednesday.
They bowled out the Capetonians for 312 to bank a first innings lead of 77 runs, and by the close of play they had added a further 55 second innings runs to earn an overnight lead of 132.
“We got full bowling points, which was a bonus,” said Dolphins skipper Marques Ackerman.
“We are very proud of young Lifa Ntanzi getting three wickets today and improving game by game.
“We are in a good position, so hopefully we can bat well tomorrow morning and set the game up nicely,” he added.
With 104 overs scheduled for the days play to try and make up for the time lost to bad light, the morning session was attritional with the Dolphins trying to keep control of the run-rate and take wickets.
They made an important breakthrough early when young speedster Lifa Ntanzi trapped Pieter Malan in front for 37.
Cobras captain Zubayr Hamza fell 34 runs later with the total on 112 when he nicked a Kerwin Mungroo delivery through to the keeper Grant Roelofsen who took a good low catch to his right.
Tony de Zorzi and Aviwe Mgijima knuckled down for the visitors and put on 45 for the fourth wicket before the latter was bowled by Senuran Muthusamy on the stroke of lunch for 23.
After lunch the Cobras resumed at 157/4 and found themselves under the cosh as the Dolphins kept taking wickets at regular intervals in the extended middle session.
De Zorzi fell for 58, caught by Marques Ackerman off the bowling of Prenelan Subrayen, then Calvin Savage was trapped in front by the on-song Lifa Ntanzi.
Senuran Muthusamy stepped up to the plate with four wickets to put the Dolphins squarely in the driving seat as they wrapped up the Cobras first innings for 312, trailing the home side by 77.
SJ Erwee opened the Dolphins second innings with Senuren Muthusamy and the pair set about attacking the Cobras pace attack as they sought to extend their lead with positive strokeplay.
Bad light ended play prematurely once again, and when the players left the field before 4:30pm, Erwee and Muthusamy had taken the home side to 55 without loss, extending their lead to 132.
