Dolphins continue their popular school engagements – Featured Durban Blog

1 February 2017 by My Durban

Dolphins continue their popular school engagements:

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins recently visited two schools in Pietermaritzburg, Deccan Road Primary School as well as Merchiston Preparatory School, where they shared a little bit of cricket knowledge with the schools’ aspiring players.

The pupils of both institutions were overjoyed as they got to meet the players and receive their autographs. At Deccan Road Primary School, the Dolphins all-rounder and Proteas spinner, Keshav Maharaj was an absolute favourite, the organisers even had to step in and rescue him as he was trapped by pupils.

The KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union marketing manager, Nana Ngubane explained that the schools’ visit they had conducted was part of a strategy they have as an organisation to try and create a strong bond with the communities around KwaZulu-Natal.

“The Hollywoodbets Dolphins is a proudly KwaZulu-Natal brand and prides itself in taking cricket to the communities of KZN,” said Ngubane.

“My hope is that we can grow the Hollywoodbets Dolphins brand, bring the game to the kids and get the kids to also come to the stadium with family and friends to support their heroes and ensure a strong cricketing footprint in KZN and beyond.”

The schools were also encouraged to come and support the Dolphins whenever they are in action, especially if the matches are at the PMB Oval.

Merchiston Preparatory School’s Director of Sport, Richard Bennett thanked the KZN Cricket Union and the Hollywoodbets Dolphins for giving the children the opportunity to meet their heroes.

“I would like to thank the Dolphins franchise, team and management for their visit to our school yesterday,” he said.

“The staff and boys thoroughly enjoyed the morning and it was just awesome meeting the players and seeing what great ambassadors they are for the union, but also for cricket as a sport.”

According to the Dolphins’ coach, Grant Morgan, visiting schools in this manner is always a beautiful experience as it draws the children who love cricket closer to their idols. He also commended his players for the maturity they displayed during their interaction with pupils.

“The Dolphins are absolutely thrilled about the schools programme we have embarked on this season and the reaction and exposure we are getting from the kids during these interventions is unbelievable,” he stated.

“We have been to four schools so far and the Dolphins players and staff have been superb in the manner in which they have conducted themselves.

“The excitement and passion that has been shown towards our brand has been phenomenal and we have worked out that there can be no doubt that there is huge scope for the growth and development of our brand,” Morgan added.

“The players have shown maturity and passion towards the kids and there is a huge excitement about our role in this area of kids’ development and pulling people towards our brand.”
