Dolphins and Warriors share One Day Cup – Featured Durban Blog

1 March 2018 by Alan

Dolphins and Warriors share One Day Cup:

Durban – A second rained out day in a row has meant that the 2017/18 Momentum One Day Cup was shared between the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and the Warriors on Saturday.

Despite the disappointment of not playing today, the Dolphins coach Grant Morgan was proud of the way his team played.

“It’s our second final of the season and if you look at aggregates and net run rates we’ve had the better of every side in the competition,” he said.

“We couldn’t change what happened last night or what happened today but I can say that they had the upper hand in yesterday.

“At the end of the day we would have loved to play but we must turn it into something special because both sides have won a trophy.”

The Dolphins franchise has never won a 50 over title, KwaZulu-Natal was the last team when they won the title in 2001/2002 so to share a title is a proud moment for coach and the team.

“It’s obviously disappointing that we didn’t get on the field today but it’s a trophy in the cabinet so we are happy with that.

“Last season was disappointing for us when we lost in knock out phases of competitions and when we got to the RAM SLAM final we made it known that we were a force to be reckoned with,” stand-in captain Keshav Maharaj mentioned.

The Dolphins shift their focus to the Sunfoil Series with a clash against the VKB Knights at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley from 8 February.

Dolphins & Warriors in Durban One Day Cup final:

Durban – A first final at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead in 16 years will see the Hollywoodbets Dolphins host the Warriors in the Momentum One Day Cup grand finale on Friday. The Dolphins beat the WSB Cape Cobras in their semi-final at PPC Newlands on Wednesday evening by 49 runs. The win booked their spot in the final and coach Grant Morgan is under no illusions as to how difficult the task is going to be.“I rate the Warriors as probably the best fielding team in the competition,” he said. “They were in two finals last season and have been in a semi-final this season already so they have proven to be a good side across both white ball campaigns.“We will have to play our best game of the season if we are going to get over the line on Friday.”

Morgan and his chargers were slightly disappointed by how their innings in the semi-final concluded after they got off to a brilliant start. He believed that 230 was always going to be defendable, however his bowling attack needed to fire.

“Our bowlers knew that they had to be on point and they were. The bowlers have been superb throughout the season, but I still don’t think that we have put that perfect game together yet.

“Our batting has come close to hitting its straps but we have fallen by the wayside at times which has prevented us from getting that big score,” he added.

The Dolphins top order has been in good form throughout the campaign with Morné van Wyk, Sarel Erwee and Dane Vilas being amongst the runs.

Along with Vaughn van Jaarsveld, who missed a few games due to injury, the Dolphins top order can be a difficult nut to crack.

Durban hasn’t had a domestic cricket final since the 2001/2002 season when KwaZulu-Natal beat Western Province in the 50 over competition and Morgan is hoping his team can give the fans a positive show.

“All we want to do is to keep improving and we have done that in the RAM SLAM and now we have done it again in the Momentum One Day Cup.

“We want to give the fans in Durban something to be proud of and this is the second final in the city in six months after the Currie Cup final.

“To play in front of a home crowd in a final is something that all the players are looking forward to,” Morgan concluded.
