DA’s eThekwini Mayoral Candidate

16 December 2015 by Alan

Durban – The DA in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday night named MP Haniff Hoosen as its eThekwini municipality mayoral candidate for the 2016 elections.

Speaking to News24 about his nomination, Hoosen – who has also served as a councillor in the municipality for 10 years – said: “We are convinced that we will influence the majority of voters in this city to help us make this city even better than the City of Cape Town.

“Come 2016, under a DA government, Durban will be set on a path to become the leading city in Africa.”

Hoosen said he would launch his mayoral campaign next year.

“When people see Durban, they see a tale of two cities. A city divided by race, income inequality, joblessness and apartheid spatial planning.”

Hoosen said the DA would work hard to make the municipality more attractive to business.

“We will make it attractive for businesses to invest here and establish manufacturing hubs to reduce unemployment. One in four people in Durban don’t have a job.

“We need to make it easier for entrepreneurs with good ideas to start businesses here. eThekwini can become an engine room for economic growth.”

Hoosen said service delivery had been compromised in the municipality due to party politics.
