Crocworld goes online to share animal news and updates during national lockdown:
In accordance with government regulations amidst the coronavirus pandemic, Crocworld Conservation Centre in Scottburgh on the KZN South Coast closed its doors to the public as of Friday, 27 March with the Fish Eagle Café closed to trade, for the duration of the lockdown. However, they will keep in constant contact with the public through exciting live feeds, video footage and interviews.
“Crocworld will have a core group of staff that will continue the feeding and animal husbandry during the 21-day lockdown, ensuring the health and safety of all our resident animals is prioritised,” said Martin Rodrigues, Manager of Crocworld Conservation Centre. “We understand this will be a difficult time with people having to avoid public space and interaction, which is why we are going online with live feeds directly from the centre.”
Crocworld will be hosting virtual tours of the centre to keep everyone updated on all the animal activity – a great educational tour for youngsters or something interesting for new or first-time ‘visitors’. There will also be live feeds and interactive sessions with the resident experts, Martin Rodrigues (Centre Manager), James Wittstock (Reptile Curator) and Ryne Ferguson (Bird Curator). The public will also get the chance to visit the Crocworld Conservation Centre Facebook page to vote for environmental topics and themes they would like covered during the lockdown period, and check out any of the exciting snake capture videos being posted.
Live-stream videos will be shared on the ‘Crocworld Conservation Centre’ Facebook page, watch out for these dates and times:
- Monday, 30 March at 11am: Crocodile feeding and talk (Henry the Nile Crocodile)
- Wednesday, 1 April at 11am: Vulture feeding and talk
- Friday, 3 April at 11am: Tortoise feeding and talk – introducing Brian the Leopard Tortoise!
- Monday, 6 April 11am: Alligator feeding and talk
- Wednesday, 8 April at 11am: Flamingo feeding and talk
- Wednesday, 15 April at 11am: Green Mamba talk
“We know these are uncertain times but Crocworld will constantly work to find innovative ways to keep the public engaged in our daily activities and continue our mandate to educate the public about animal conservation,” said Rodrigues. “The management of Crocworld will share updated information with our visitors as the situation develops.”
