In an effort to improve the quality of service rendered in the City by small businesses, eThekwini Municipality invites all co-operatives within the region to register in the Municipality’s Co-operative database.
The Municipality intends to ensure the improvement of the quality of service or products rendered, sustained income generation, job creation and competitiveness with the aim of better positioning the co-operatives to take advantage of the opportunities emerging in, local, provincial, national, continental and global markets.
The Head of Business Support, Tourism and Markets Unit, Philip Sithole says that the primary aim is to have a well-coordinated system that will ensure smooth and fair provision of services.
“Co-operatives play a major role in economic and community development; as such the Municipality seeks to identify gabs where they can be better capacitated. The capacity building programmes are provided through a series of business development workshops and trainings in various townships and rural areas within eThekwini,” said Sithole.
He added that co-operatives could have a far reaching impact in terms of social and economic benefits, and if their role is underestimated this could hamper their ability to reach their potential.
All co-operatives in eThekwini region are invited to submit their profiles for registration.
Registration forms are obtainable from 08h00 to 16h00 at Business Support, Tourism and Markets Unit, 11th Floor, 75 Dr Langalibalele Dube (Winder) Street, Sizakala centres, Cooperative Incubators or Municipal website: www.durban.gov.za.
The closing date for submissions is Friday, 31 October 2014 and completed documents must be hand delivered at the above mentioned address.
