The Cell C Sharks team has remained largely unchanged for our week three Currie Cup clash with Griquas, with an almost identical line-up named.
In his quest to build momentum and continuity in this year’s Currie Cup, and in sticking largely with the team that defeated the Pumas last week, Cell C Sharks head coach Robert du Preez has made minimal changes for Friday night’s home clash with Griquas at Growthpoint KINGS PARK.
There are just two changes to last week’s starting side, both amongst the forwards. Tyler Paul comes in for the injured Hyron Andrews (shoulder injury) in the second row, while Jacques Vermeulen takes over from Jean-Luc du Preez, who has been rested for this match.
John-Hubert Meyer and Jean Droste have been named amongst the replacements to cover tighthead and lock respectively.
Griquas are the 2017 SuperSport Rugby Challenge losing finalists, a testament to their fighting character and a team that always punches above their weight.
In their two matches so far in the Currie Cup, they have averaged 44 points a game, losing both matches (against the Blue Bulls and Lions), but in each one, hugely competitive, showing just how dangerous they are on attack and pushing their opponents to the end.
After our 29-nil victory over the Pumas last weekend, du Preez will be hoping for more of the same as far as our defence goes. Keeping any team scoreless for 80 minutes is no easy feat, and after putting 43 points past the Lions in their week one victory, the Pumas are not a side to be underestimated.
And in scoring 29 unanswered points and four tries for the bonus point victory, it is important to keep the momentum going and to make sure opportunities created are closed out.
The match kicks off at 7pm.
