Coastal Women eager to hit the ground running this season:
Durban – The Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal women’s side is eager to get back to playing competitive cricket again when they take part in the CSA Women’s Provincial One Day Cup in Johannesburg starting this weekend.
The KZN side is part of the top six sides in the women’s domestic game and will come up against the biggest names in women’s cricket in South Africa over the next six days.
Recently appointed head coach of the side Angelique Taai is excited to get going with such a talented and diverse group of cricketers.
“We’ve had a lot of hard work to do through lockdowns and looting but the side is looking strong and fit for the week,” Taai said.
“The diversity in the team is something that I really appreciate and we have girls from all different backgrounds representing KZN which is exciting.
“We have prepared well for this week and we know that every single game is going to be difficult but we are excited for what the week holds in store for us.”
Taai, who hails from the Border region, joined as head coach in June and has signed a three year deal as head coach of the side. Going into her first assignment as coach she’s already set goals that she wants to achieve during her tenure.
“Remaining in the top six is my goal for the first year, then I want the side to be in the top three and in my final year we want to be the best women’s domestic side in the country.
“I have told the girls this but I am hoping that we can reach those goals earlier than I’ve set them out!”
Unfortunately for the Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal Women’s team they will be without two of their big name players with Shabnim Ismail and Trisha Chetty, both ruled out due to injury.
Nondumiso Shangase, who has been a consistent performer for the Momentum Proteas, will captain the side and she will rely heavily on the experienced Chloe Tryon for advice through the five matches.

Knights claim T20 Knock Out title:
Durban – The Itec Knights beat the Hollywoodbets Dolphins by seven runs in the final of the CSA T20 Knock Out in Kimberley on Friday.
Bowling first the Dolphins managed to keep the Knights top order in check for the early part of the innings with Ottniel Baartman and Daryn Dupavillon again impressing with the new ball.
Dupavillon bagged the wicket of Rynard van Tonder in the first over and 36 runs later the dangerous Rilee Rossouw was dismissed for 28 by Thando Ntini.
Patrick Kruger and skipper Pite van Biljoen combined in a dominant stand that saw the Knights add 86 runs in just 53 deliveries before Van Biljoen was dismissed for a well-played 42 off just 25 balls – bowled by Jason Smith.
Kruger’s anchoring innings was the mainstay throughout for the Bloemfontein men and he eventually fell in the nineteenth over for 61, caught by Baartman off the bowling of Ntini.
Farhaan Behardien ended the innings off for the Knights with 29 not out off just 18 balls as they set the Dolphins 177 to win the T20 Knock Out.
In reply the Dolphins tried valiantly to keep with the required rate and took the match as close to the end as they could.
Sarel Erwee and Khaya Zondo’s partnership was 51 runs for the third wicket gave the Dolphins a chance before Erwee fell for 27. Zondo was dismissed for 43 and the Dolphins still had a slither of hope.
Bryce Parsons and Jason Smith’s stand was their lifeline and their 52 run partnership took the Dolphins into the nineteenth over before Parson’s fell for 35.
Smith put in a valiant effort in the final two overs where he scored 25 runs but it wasn’t enough as they ended seven runs short giving the Knights the first trophy of the season.
