With the festive season underway, municipal officials are ready for an epic long weekend, leading up to the public holiday on Tuesday, 16 December 2014.
Thousands of people are expected to flock to the beach over the next few days and all necessary preparations have been put in place to ensure that they have an enjoyable, safe and hassle-free time. Law Enforcement Agencies have been deployed at various spots and their visibility will ensure that patrons feel safe and protected at all times.
Chairperson of the Festive Season Management Committee (FESMAC), Christo Swart, said that, thus far, everything is under control and no major incidents have been reported. He urged all beachgoers to ensure that they do not bring alcohol or any bottles to the beach, as these will be confiscated by Law Enforcement Agencies. “Our patrons are urged to abide by the Municipal by-laws as anyone found to be contravening the law will find themselves in trouble,” he said.
Parents are urged to ensure that their children are within sight at all times so that they do not wonder off and end up separating from them. However, separated children will be looked after at Gazebos marked “SEPARATED CHILDREN”. It is important to ensure that children are tagged with wristbands, containing the details of the parent, as soon as they get to the beachfront, as this helps with re-unification in instances where parents and children are separated. The wristbands are obtainable from beach buddies and child-minders at the beachfront.
To avoid congestion, roads leading to the beachfront precinct will be closed. Only vehicles that have permits will be allowed access into the area. Busses and taxis will only be allowed to park at the Drive-Inn Site.
