EThekwini leadership led by the Mayor Cllr James Nxumalo has condemned those responsible for the non-collection of refuse in uMlazi saying the situation cannot be allowed to continue.
“The Municipality is here to serve the community and its main priority is the residents of uMlazi who deserve to live in human and hygienic conditions. Action must be taken against whoever is implicated in this current situation,” said Nxumalo.
The City Manager Sibusiso Sithole has been mandated to implement urgent measures to resolve the matter.
A meeting with all relevant and/or affected stakeholders will be held tomorrow to address the matter.
This weekend the Municipality will ensure that the streets in uMlazi are clean and that all refuse bags are collected.
Council is also considering taking over the refuse collection services in uMlazi in the near future to prevent the non-collection of refuse from occurring.
