Boxer Super Run Boasts a Combined Prize Purse of R294 400 in 2026

6 September 2026 by My Durban

The Boxer Super Run will offer a combined prize purse of an impressive R294 400 across its two 2026 events, with South Africa’s most social 5km run heading to Durban on Sunday, 18 October 2026, followed by Johannesburg on Sunday, 15 November 2026.

The combined prize purse of R294 400 will be shared equally between the two events, with R147 200 on offer in Durban and R147 200 in Joburg. The winners of the Elite Men’s and Elite Women’s races will each take home an impressive R20 000.

“Boxer Super Run is proud to offer an impressive prize purse of R147 200 at both the Durban and Joburg events in 2026,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports. “The Boxer Super Run continues to elevate the profile of short-distance road running by creating meaningful opportunities for athletes to compete, perform and be recognised for their achievements. The prize purse will be awarded across both the Elite and Open Wave categories, with the top eight men and women in the Elite Race earning prize money, including R20 000 for each winner. In the Open Wave, the top three men and women in each age category, from Junior through to 70+, will also have the opportunity to earn prize money.”

“The 5km is one of the most exciting distances in road running because it demands a unique combination of speed, endurance and race strategy,” adds Meyer. “For elite athletes, every second counts, making for an incredibly competitive and compelling race. With R147 200 up for grabs both in Durban and Joburg, we expect the 2026 Boxer Super Run to deliver some exceptional performances and plenty of excitement for spectators.”

Sharing Meyer’s excitement, Lee-Ann Pillay, Head of Marketing at Boxer Superstores underlines Boxer Superstores’ ongoing support for South African athletes.

“By offering an impressive prize purse of R147 200 in each city, we’re proud to recognise the dedication, determination and talent of South Africa’s elite athletes,” says Pillay. “We hope this added incentive inspires athletes to push themselves and give their best on race day. At the same time, the Boxer Super Run is about creating an experience that everyone can enjoy. We encourage our Open and Super Social Wave runners to stick around after their own race, get behind the elites and soak up the excitement as they battle it out on the streets of Durban and Johannesburg. It’s a great opportunity to witness world-class racing up close and be part of the atmosphere.”
